Friday is here.

IMG_7058These are the slippers I knit for my oldest granddaughter.  It took 2 months to get them done.  (I know the photo makes them look misshapen, but they aren’t.)  The pattern is so complex that nearly every stitch was ripped out and re-knitted, in some cases more than once.  I am now working on the second pair.  I think I shall have them done in 2 weeks.  I have five more pairs to make!  And then hats and mittens for the son and grandson.  I am considering taking a week of vacation so that I can just knit instead of this crazy working stuff that interrupts my knitting!

I am grateful it is Friday.  I am exhausted.  There is so much to be done, so much to be repaired, so many thorny conversations to have.  And all day long, there is a parade of people through my office.  Problems.  Problems.  Problems.  By the end of the day I haven’t got one more ounce of wisdom left…. not to mention patience!

IMG_7076When I got back from lunch yesterday, I was greeted with the above.  I told everyone there was never any evidence of a mouse being in my office.  But when I opened my desk drawers, there were little black droppings over everything.  And I recalled that all morning I was wondering what the little noises were that I was hearing.  ugh.  I went to the nursing office to get some gloves and alcohol swabs, and came back and started cleaning and throwing away.  When I was done, I opened one of the drawers for something, and out leapt a little grey mouse!  And just like a little girl, I screamed.  I heard someone across the hall in the nursing office say “found it!”  Gross.

I put in the work order, as you are supposed to, but then I got on my informal network and found someone who happened to have a mouse trap, who was willing to come over and set it for me.  My stomach is starting to turn just thinking about it.  We’ll see what today brings.

Got to get ready for Mass.  Oh, my new life is so wonderful.  I know I sound like I am complaining, but I am just where I want and need to be.

Thank you God.

  1. Those booties are adorable! I can’t believe you actually made them yourself. Fantastic.

I looooooove those booties! I want a pair for myself! Where did you find the pattern?

I am a knitter too. There seems to be a point in every project I do where I get stuck and knit, rip out, knit, rip out. No matter how simple there is a point where I get stuck…..a metaphor for life it is.

I also never call it ripping out – I call it reverse knitting! hahaha.

I used to read your blog every single day for a few years. I followed you from your old blog. On the anniversary of my first ever 6 months of continuous sobriety you wrote that you weren’t going to blog anymore. I was sad but I accepted it. I came to the website today for the first time since that post but I used to read you every day. I just wanted to read some old posts I suppose, and I am so excited that you are still blogging. It’s great Mary. I don’t know, I really missed your presence. I think there are a lot of people whose lives you touch. I don’t know if you have any idea how big your web following is. And I try to comment from time to time but I know how it must feel when no one does. Anyway, I am glad you are back, for however long it may be I am happy that you share your life with us.

When doing needlework and have to ‘rip;, i have said ever since entering the Program, It takes what it takes……Helps me keep my cool.
Those boot/slippers are adorable. I bet they’ll be favorites.

Enjoy that thorny conversation, that crazy mouse for me–I’ve been retired a few years and it’s a little too quiet. Guess I should watch what I wish for…..

Lovely slippers! Tis the season 🙂
Several thorny conversations in my office this week. Mostly people venting about each other. Hopefully this will end soon. Our team was less them and us previously. Applying prayer more than trying to figure out how to fix everyone which is my default. The holidays may be a part of the stress as well. Why can’t we all just get along as best we can?!?
So glad you are still posting. I Love Love Love the down dog pic of gBaby!

    • I have become convinced that younger people are out of control in the workplace. They don’t seem to understand the words “consensus” or “compromise.” But then look at our politicians, and this lack of working together is actually rewarded – it’s called “standing on our principles.”

Well, I’m not much of a fan of rodents in offices, homes or boats. I flushed out the rat that was on the boat back in the spring with ammonia. It left and that was that. No more problems with rodents. Your knit slippers remind me of St. Patrick’s Day.

Your knitting skills are amazing. I loved the note that someone left you. lol So glad you found it. Better than having it die in your office in a secret spot…..trust me on that!

  8. There is now a mouse trap under my desk. Monday morning could be very ugly. ick.

I am going to a knitting class at my LYS today from 10 to 4 with the designer. Hopefully, not another unfinished project. If I had a mouse at work I would freak. We have little gnats flying around from someone’s plant. I do not get the younger people at the work place. I am working with a young lady that every time I go over to her cubicle she is texting. I want to know how she gets her work done with more texting than working?? Oh well. I think I will check out the Financial University of Dave Ramsey. Thanks Mary. I love love those little bootie slippers.

    • I think I know which class! I was at the LYS on Friday night and got to knit with her and a bunch of others for a while. She seems pretty awesome, if it is the same one. She had the cutest hand-knit sweater on.
